What To Expect On Your Initial Visit For a Cardiovascular Consultation

Maximize your interaction between you and your cardiologist by coming in prepared for your scheduled appointment. If you can list the medications that you are currently taking including the frequency of your usage and the dose, it will be an invaluable resource for your cardiologist. You can also expect to undergo a detailed cardiovascular history and physical examination.

Meeting with the Cardiologist

Your first cardiologist appointment should be a comfortable one. This kind of consultation is a significant aspect of medical treatment where the heart specialists help detect the cardiac problems, present complaints and understand if there are any complications and risks so that a healthier lifestyle habit can be adopted. You will also be asked of the general health questions and some more specific questions related to the reason for your visit. If physical examination is necessary, it follows. Our staff and heart specialist will also provide personalized information regarding cardiovascular testing and treatment plans once the results are already obtained.

FAQs

  • How can Coronary artery disease (CAD) be detected?

Patients with suspected CAD can undergo a CT scan to identify significant coronary artery blockages. However, this test may not be suitable for some patients with allergies to iodinated contrast, kidney impairment or very calcified coronary arteries.

Alternatively, there are the other non-invasive cardiac imaging modalities, such as myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), which has emerged as one of the most important and cost-effective tests for detecting CAD.

  • How is hypertension/high blood pressure associated with CAD?

The risk of coronary artery disease and stroke are directly related to blood pressure readings, and treatment to lower blood pressure is typically a combination of lifestyle changes (weight loss, regular exercise and a reduction in salt and alcohol intake) and drug therapy in the form of anti-hypertensives. Most patients need more than one drug, each taken at least daily. Some patients will need two to three drugs to control their blood pressure.

  • Can I walk in for an appointment or service?

We wanted to provide you with the earliest appointment slot available. That is why we strongly advice that you make a prior appointment with our staff so our cardiologist can meet you on an allocated time. You may call or email us today.
